THE STORY
I have always had a wide variety of interests. As a child, I loved fashion, makeup, doing hair, making clothes for my dolls, reading, writing stories and poems, and hanging out with my friends until the street lights came on. I loved music and dance. But another interest was cars, repairs, collision work and fancy upgrades. Growing up we never had a brand new car, at least not one long term. Having used cars provided for many adventures. Some adventures were funny, some embarrassing and others were stressful.

A recall enjoying the few times I was able to help my dad with the car. Nothing major but I liked tools. I liked helping, I liked learning something different. As an adult, a single parent, I was not able to buy new cars. It has always been one struggle after another in life and with vehicles. Constant breakdowns, costly repairs, cars that become inoperable...buy another not so great used car and repeat.

I grew tired of being taken advantage of by sales people and car repair shops. I understood that knowledge is key. I read what I could. I learned how to ask better questions. It did not stop the issues that I and many consumers have. I very much wanted to learn about fixing cars. I had a desire to save others from the headache. I wanted to own a used car lot to sell dependable cars, at a reasonable cost with minimal hassle and a repair shop that did not overcharge. That seems like a huge unrealistic goal and many have said so. But I believe in what appears to be the impossible. Besides a legacy of hope, love and care, and teachings to make sure my son is the best human being he can be, I would like to leave my son more than an insurance policy. As a parent you understand the importance of trying to leave property, a business and resources and whatever you think is important for your children and their children.
Today, transportation is a necessity for individuals and families. There is a huge difference in circumstances when you don't have a reliable and affordable vehicle. I want to offer services not currently in the forefront of most businesses in the industry. I also want the means to educate others, especially women, young people and first time car owners. I want to use any business that I have to give back. Part of my undergraduate education included sociology and non-profit studies. My graduate program (which I hope to completed before I am a senior citizen) is Human and Social Services Nonprofit Administration. So serving and one day having a nonprofit is a major goal. My organization would assist in some of the basic needs of individual and families. Access to education, job skills, starting a business, housing, and transportation. I have seen very few programs that assist with giving away cars to those in need, helping people with maintenance before the car is such a state that the repairs are overwhelming and few that assist with appropriate financing of a truly dependable ride. In order to get there, I need the education and experience.
When my son was little, I attempted a car technician program, while taking other courses towards an unrelated degree. The school was over an hour drive away from home. As luck would have it, I could not complete my first class due to car issues and later childcare that was not dependable. I was in my twenties.

I tried again in my late thirties. Once again life, health, a demanding job and financial challenges got in the way. Now at almost 50, I will try this again. Though a Fall 2020 start looks like a major financial challenge, if I have to delay a bit, I will not be disheartened. I will use the time to prepare for the next entry term, which I just found out was next Fall. The courses in order are not offered in the evenings for Spring terms. So, there is only a Fall start for the part-time-evening program. This will not curtail my pursuit but enhance a multiple educational journey. I have always been tenacious. The next journey begins Sept 2020 (fingers and toes crossed). If not, I will still get there. 2021.
